
Atikokan resident charged with firearm trafficking
The Atikokan OPP has arrested a 43-year-old, who faces four charges after a firearm trafficking investigation took place in Northwestern Ontario.
The OPP says several restricted firearms registered to an Atikokan resident were recovered in October and November, prompting the investigation. On December 2nd, several search warrants were executed at multiple Atikokan and Highway 11 residences, with the help of the Northwest Region’s Emergency Response Team.
Several items were seized as a result of the warrants, including multiple firearm magazines, ammunition, gun cases for handguns, computers, cell phones, firearm registration and financial documents, and one non-restricted firearm.
43-year-old Nicola Raccioppi of Atikokan was arrested and charged with the following offences:
- Trafficking a restricted firearm
- Possession of a prohibited weapon
- 5 counts of Fail to report a lost or stolen restricted firearm
- Possession of counterfeit money
Raccioppi was remanded into custody pending a bail hearing.
