
Four Large Forest Fires Declared “Out”
The Ministry of Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry has declared that a number of the region’s largest forest fires are out.
The MNDMNRF says four fires in the Red Lake area were officially called out on October 5, and they include:
- Red Lake 77 (36,037 hectares) west of Red Lake
- Red Lake 16 (158,737 hectares) west of Pikangikum First Nation/Red Lake
- Red Lake 65 (20,254 hectares) west of Poplar Hill First Nation
- Red Lake 51 (53,522 hectares) west of Deer Lake First Nation
At the time of the update, there are seven active fires in the region, two of which are being held and five are being observed. Including the Kenora 51 forest fire which has burned 200,667 hectares since first being discovered on June 8, 2021.
The wildland fire hazard is moderate to low across the Northwest Region with areas of high hazard in the Red Lake and Kenora sectors.
